My kids think I’m weird, but I enjoy visiting model train exhibits when we travel.  I’m surprised and charmed by the attractions that tuck a model train exhibit into the mix.  Chicago’s Botanic Gardens Model Railroad Garden is one.  Of course The Great Train Story model train at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry can’t be missed, and The G-Scale Model Train at The Living Desert in Palm Springs is another unexpected find.

The Miniatur Wunderland, Hamburg, Germany, is billed as the largest model train exhibit in the world, and is more than just a model railroad – it includes ships, road transportation, and airplanes, and transportation over several countries throughout the world.  More than 200,000 miniature people populate the exhibit, and a day cycles every fifteen minutes.

Definitely one for the bucket list, but for now, enjoy the video:
