It probably would not take much for me to embrace the steam-punk lifestyle; I am fascinated by the cleverness of our predecessors and the ingenuity with which they created the enormously complex, almost Rube-Goldberg-like machines to accomplish the same tasks served by machines we put in our pockets today. Below is a segment from a British production, “The Secret Life of Machines” about the evolution of fax machines. I love the demonstration using paint rollers and red and green flags to show how sending fax signals over a distance is interpreted.
